Beautiful Knits from Melbourne

Knitters in Melbourne have been busy creating many fabulous things! We have had the pleasure of being inspired by some of these finished pieces when they have been brought into the store, and would like to share them with you.

This jumper looked superb in real life (and very nice in the photos)! We hear it feels great to wear, too!

Hal's Jumper

Hal knitted this in our Morris Norway 14 ply, in colour #2403. ‘Cara’ was designed by Gudrun Johnston of The Shetland Trader, and you can buy the pattern on Ravelry for US$6.50. While the pattern says that it uses an Aran/10 ply yarn, the original yarn has a tension of 14-16 stitches to 10cm, which is actually closer to a 14 ply. (Morris Norway 14 ply has 14 stitches to 10cm). It’s a good reminder to check the tension carefully when choosing a substitute yarn, and to knit a tension square! If you’re not quite sure how to measure one, this video might help. You’ll need 10 balls to knit a ‘Cara’ jumper in Norway 14 ply – pictured below.

Also brought in recently was this colourful and fun blanket, knitted by Joanne. This must brighten up her day every time she sees it, which is a just reward for her efforts!

Joanne's Mitered Square Blanket

It uses many of the Reggae Ombre 10 ply colours from Schoppel Wolle, and shows them off fantastically! The squares are knitted in mitered garter stitch squares. If you’d like to learn how to knit them, this site is a good one to visit.

Here are some of the Reggae Ombre range (with a Reggae Print ball thrown in too – can you guess which?)

Thanks Hal and Joanne, and keep up the good work everyone!
